IRVING, Texas - Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky named the 11 recipients of the Postgraduate Scholarship Awards today. The conference annually presents the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarship awards to graduates as selected by the Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors. Four recipients participated in track & field during their collegiate careers.

Geoffrey Handsfield, East Carolina, Men's Swimming
Handsfield was the three-year captain of the Pirate swim team after winning the ECU Rookie Award in 2005. A member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal List, Handsfield also twice earned ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. The Morehead City, N.C. plans a six-week trip to Turkey this summer, before beginning graduate coursework at East Carolina in applied physics. Handsfield has applied to several doctoral programs and hopes to earn a degree in medical physics.

Britani Keeney, Marshall, Women's Track & Field
With a 4.0 GPA, Keeney excelled on the field and in the classroom. A four-year letterwinner in hammer and discus for the Thundering Herd, Keeney was also an eight-time Dean's List recipient and the 2007 Marketing Student of the Year. The Huntington, W.Va., native plans to receive her MBA in May 2009 and pursue a career in pharmaceutical sales and eventually start her own business.

Neil Schenk, Memphis, Baseball
Schenk was a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal selection. He was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team as a Spanish major. The 2008 M Club Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, he made a team-high 19 appearances on the mound this season and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the June MLB Draft. A native of Memphis, Schenk plans to apply to medical school.

Marissa Daniels, Rice, Women's Cross Country/Track & Field
Daniels competed four years in both cross country and distance events for the track team, earning eight letters with the Owls. A two-time selection to both the C-USA All-Academic Teams for cross country and track & field, Daniels holds the school record for the 5,000 meters and was the C-USA champion in the 10,000 meters. A native of Pearland, Texas, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in kinesiology and plans to enroll in medical school.

Andrea Kvetova, SMU, Women's Track & Field
A three-time NCAA qualifier in the javelin throw, Kvetova has won four letters in track and field for the Mustangs and placed fourth at the 2008 NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors. She is already enrolled in the graduate program at SMU, after earning a bachelor's degree in finance with a minor in economics. Kvetova, who came to Dallas from Prague, Czech Republic, is pursuing a master's degree in International economics.

Cornelius Duncan, Southern Miss, Men's Track & Field
Duncan won the 400-meter title at the 2008 C-USA Outdoor Championship and swept both the C-USA Indoor and Outdoor titles in 2007, while taking All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. Duncan is a therapeutic recreation major with a minor in psychology. The Birmingham, Ala., native is scheduled to graduate in December and plans to pursue a master's degree in coaching education from Southern Miss.

Megan Weinlein, Tulane, Women's Soccer
Weinlein was named the Tulane Women's Soccer Newcomer of the Year following her freshman season and earned two letters for the Green Wave before women's soccer was suspended in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Dallas, Texas, native earned her bachelor of arts in communication, and has been accepted to law school at Emory, as well as Washington and Lee.

Lindsey Tower, Tulsa, Softball
Tower, the 2008 TU Ultimate Team Award winner, lettered four times for the Golden Hurricane softball team at second base and as an outfielder. The accounting major was also honored by the College of Business Faculty Recognition of Excellence, the College of Business Dean's List and the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. The Edmond, Okla., native has already been accepted to the MBA program at Tulsa.

Jill Porto, UAB, Women's Soccer
Porto was a four-year letterwinner for the UAB women's soccer team that won two C-USA Championship titles during her tenure. The two-time All-Conference first teamer was also named to the NSCAA/adidas Women's Scholar All-America Second Team. Porto, who hails from Woodbridge, Va., is expected to receive her bachelor's degree in business marketing this fall and will continue her studies in the MBA program at UAB.

Shelly Frick, UCF, Softball
Frick was the Knights' designated hitter on this year's team, which won the C-USA tournament and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The finance major was named to the Dean's List, the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, the National Association of Collegiate Scholars and the President's Leadership Council. She also served as co-president of UCF's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The Jacksonville, Fla., native will continue her studies at UCF to pursue a Master's in Business Administration (MBA).

Jami Tullius, UTEP, Women's Soccer
Tullius, the 2007 C-USA Women's Soccer Player of the Year, represents the Miners with a postgraduate scholarship. The four-year letterwinner was a selection to the all-conference first team, all-tournament team and all-academic squad. The El Paso native also became the first women's soccer player in school history to score 100 career points. Tullius was a mechanical engineering major and has been accepted to Rice University's PhD program in mechanical engineering with a specialization in aeronautics.
