Tulane Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at Beau Rivage Tourney
GULFPORT, Miss. -- With senior Justin Strausbaugh and sophomore Bryon
McDougall shooting matching 75s Tuesday, the Tulane Green Wave men's
golf team finished tied for seventh among 16 teams at the Beau Rivage
College Classic. The tournament, Tulane's first of the 2001 spring
season, was played at the par 72 Windance Country Club in Gulfport,
Miss.
Strausbaugh's 75 gave him a 54-hole total of eight-over par 224 and left
him tied for eighth in the tournament. McDougall was in a group of seven
golfers who tied for 12th, just one stroke back at nine-over 225. The
Green Wave also got a strong final round from sophomore Phil Krass, who
shot a 77 Tuesday to finish at 234, in a tie for 44th place.
As a team, the Green Wave came back to shoot 307 Tuesday and tied for
seventh with tournament host Southern Miss. Sam Houston State took the
team crown, followed by Tennessee. Tulane C-USA foes Louisville and
South Florida tied for third while UL-Monroe was fifth and Southeastern
Louisiana sixth, seven strokes ahead of Tulane and USM.
Tulane is next in action next Monday and Tuesday at the Beau Chene
Collegiate Classic in Hammond.
