Men's Golfer of the Week
Brandon DeStefano - SMU (Junior, Bryan, Texas)
On the heels of back-to-back 68s in the first two rounds, DeStefano carded a 66 over the final 18 before besting Auburn's Jay Moseley on the second playoff hole to take medalist honors at the prestigious John Burns Intercollegiate at the Leilehua Golf Course in Hawaii. DeStefano finished at 14-under 202 for 54 holes, leading SMU to a team win over Arizona, Auburn, Denver, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV, New Mexico, UTEP, San Diego, San Diego State, Colorado State, Cal, San Jose State, Utah, UH Hilo, Long Beach State, Nagoya University, BYU, Nevada, Texas A&M and Hawaii. It was DeStefano's first career victory as he becomes the third golfer on the Mustangs roster to win a tournament title.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Stacey Tate - Memphis (Junior, Auckland, New Zealand)
Tate shot a career low 5-under 68 in the final round to capture medalist honors at the Pat Bradley Women's Golf Championship. Her career low 68 ranks in a tie for second all-time at Memphis. The New Zealand native carded a 71-75-68=214, one stroke behind her previous Tiger record 215 she posted last year to win the Lady Eagle Classic. Tate is only the fifth player in school history to win multiple tournaments in their career. The win also marks the fifth time she has finished in the top five during her two years at Memphis. Tate finished the tournament with 13 birdies. Memphis placed seventh out of 20 teams, a field that included five teams ranked in the Top 50, in the par-73, 5,957 yard tournament hosted by Florida International University.
