March 16 Golfers of the Week

TCU senior J.J. Killeen and UAB sophomore Janey Deimling earned the first C-USA Golfer of the Week honors for the spring season. Killeen, who ranks 37th nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin, tied for 10th place in the prestigious Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, Nev. Deimling turned in back-to-back Top 10 finishes for her Blazers with successive career-best rounds during the week.
Men’s Golfer of the Month
J.J. Killeen – TCU (Senior, Lubbock, Texas)
Killeen carded a 54-hole score of 216 (73-70-73) to finish even par and tie for 10th place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, Nev., March 11-13. The tournament featured 12 of the top 15 teams in the nation and 14 of the top 25 according to the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll. Killeen is currently ranked 37th nationally and owns a 72.19 stroke average on the season. This was his second Top 10 finish of the Spring and has six Top 20 finishes in the Horned Frogs seven tournaments during the 2004-05 season.
Women’s Golfer of the Month
Janey Deimling – UAB (Junior, Nanaimo, British Columbia)
Deimling turned in back-to-back Top 10 finishes this week, tying for ninth place during the Buffalo Rock Southern Shootout, hosted by Birmingham Southern, and USF’s Waterlefe Invitational. She fired a personal best 74 in the first round of the Buffalo Rock Southern Shootout. Deimling then trimmed two more strokes to set a new career-low with an even par 72 during the Waterlefe to establish a career-best three-round score of 224. The Blazers placed third at the BSC Shootout and seventh at the USF Invitational. Deimling had also won her first tournament title during February at the Miss Louis Season Opener. Teammate Brooke Mangan earned medallist honors for the BSC Shootout and in the Blazers’ fall finale at the John Kirk/Lady Panther Invitational on Oct. 25. The pair are now in the school record books as it marks the first time UAB golfers have earned three consecutive individual victories.
