USF's Wightman Wins Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship
USF senior Tele Wightman won medalist honors in a playoff at the Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championships Monday and Tuesday in Aiken, SC, leading the Bulls to a second place team finish in the 15-team field. The Bulls shot a 54-hole 851 to place second behind Virginia Tech, who finished at 836.
Wightman shot a career-best nine-under par 204 and defeated Johnson Wagner of Virginia Tech in a sudden death playoff. Wightman carded rounds of 68, 69 and 67.
USF headed into today's final round just three shots behind Virginia Tech, and even with a final round 290, the Bulls were able to hold that spot, finishing three shots ahead of third place Kansas.
In addition to Wightman's win, USF's Jay Cavanagh tied for 18th with a 213 total on rounds of 68, 71 and 74. Ricky Carrillo tied for 25th at 215, , Ryan Shears tied for 39th at 219 and Brad Quiri tied for 56th with a 224.
