Sophomore Keven Fortin-Simard of Memphis and UCF senior Ashley Grier have earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week honors for their tournament play during the week of March 15-21. Fortin-Simard, a 2005 All-Conference USA third team selection, won medalist honors at the Border Olympics with a 54-round school record 203 (66-69-68). He was also named the National Golfer of the Week by Golfweek.com and Golf World. Grier placed third at the Waterlefe Invitational and led the Golden Knights to a runner-up finish in the 14-team field.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Keven Fortin-Simard - Memphis (Sophomore, Roberval, Quebec)
Fortin-Simard adds a Conference USA Golfer of the Week award to his laurels after being named the National Golfer of the Week by both Golfweek.com and Golf World. Fortin-Simard medaled in the Border Olympics, held at the par-72 Laredo (Texas) Country Club, carding a school record 66-69-68=203. (The previous school record was 205 set by former teammate Andy Shiels last season.) It is his third first place finish of the year, and his third straight top six performance.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Ashley Grier - UCF (Senior, Hagerstown, Md.)
Grier earns her first C-USA Golfer of the Week honor after posting her best finish of the season with a third-place showing at the Waterlefe Invitational. The senior shot rounds of 73, 78 and 81 in extremely windy conditions to take sole possession of third place with a 232 (+16) and lead the Golden Knights to a second place finish among 14 teams. Grier has compiled a 79.73 stroke average for the year.
