Conference USA Announces March Golfers Of The Month

UAB's GRAEME MCDOWELL and Tulane's CAROLIN LANDMANN are Conference USA's March Golfers of the Month. McDowell is ranked sixth in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index Poll, and Landmann has finished among the top 15 in four tournaments this season.

Women - Carolin Landmann, Tulane Sophomore, Frankfurt, Germany Tulane sophomore CAROLIN LANDMANN is Conference USA's March Women's Golfer of the Month. Landmann won the Green Wave Women's Golf Classic, finished tied for second at the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout and tied for 13th at the USF/Waterlefe Invitational. In seven rounds, Landmann tallied a 75.0 average, including tying her career-best with a 70 in the final round of the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout. Landmann's individual success helped the Tulane team to a first place finish at the Green Wave Women's Golf Classic, finish second at the Waterlefe Invitational and third at the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout. She has finished among the top 15 individuals in four tournaments.
Men - Graeme McDowell, UAB Junior, Portrush, Northern Ireland UAB's GRAEME MCDOWELL is Conference USA's March Men's Golfer of the Month. Over the last four weeks, McDowell, ranked sixth in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index Poll, added two more victories to his already impressive list, bringing his total for the year to five. McDowell tallied his seventh and eighth career wins at the Seminole Intercollegiate (March 11-12) and the Conrad Rehling Alabama Invite (March 15-17), firing six under par rounds in the sixties at both events.
At the Seminole Intercollegiate, McDowell led the Blazers to a second place finish as he ran away with medalist honors. Finishing seven shots ahead of the second place finishers, the junior carded rounds of 68-69-69, for a two-day, three-round total of 10-under par (206).
Seven days later at the Alabama Invite, McDowell came to the sixteenth hole tied with Kentucky's John Holmes, but the Blazer golfer fired a hole-in-one on the par-3 to take a two-shot lead and the win, successfully defending his 2001 title. Firing rounds of 68-68 and a final round, course-record tying 65, McDowell finished with a 12-under par 201.
At the Cleveland Golf Classic in Los Angeles, Calif on March 4-5, McDowell finished tied for 17th with 220 after carding rounds of 74-78-68.
For the month of March, McDowell shot seven rounds of under-par golf, had a 69.7 scoring average and was named Golf World's College Player of the Week for March 22. -MORE-
CONFERENCE USA GOLF MONTHLY HONOR ROLL Here are some of C-USA's top golf performers for the month of March
Men CHARLOTTE - MIKE SHAMP was the 49ers' top finisher in two of three events, posting rounds of par or better in three of the six rounds played. Shamp has a team-best 73.1 average this spring. He finished at two-under-par at the Birkdale Intercollegiate and the LSU Spring Invitational.
DE PAUL - DREW MAYHEW finished third at the Winthrop Waterford Invitational on March 4-5 with a two-round total of 144 (70-74). He followed that with a two-round total of 155 (78-77) at the Pepsi Cola Invitational at the Tanglewood Resort.
EAST CAROLINA - JONATHAN HILL tied for second at the Furman Intercollegiate with a three-round total of 212 (69-73-70). He also tied for seventh at the Carolina First Intercollegiate.
HOUSTON - BRAD MCINTOSH fired back-to-back top 20 finishes at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate and the Morris Williams Intercollegiate to lead UH in both events. He posted a three-round average of 71.7 at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate, as his fifth place finish is the best by a Cougar this season. He had two even-par rounds and two sub-par rounds on the month.
SAINT LOUIS - EVAN FREDERICK had a team-best 75.1 average over five rounds last month. He is second on the team overall with a 75.3 scoring average and has three top 20 finishes in his first six collegiate tournaments.
SOUTH FLORIDA - TELE WIGHTMAN won medalist honors in a playoff at the Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate Championship, leading the Bulls to a second place finish in the 15-team event. He shot a career-best nine-under par 204 (68-69-67).
TULANE - CHRIS WHEELER has led Tulane in four tournaments this season and 20 of his 25 rounds have counted towards the team score. He had a 72.25 stroke average for the month of March and leads the team this season at 73.8. He finished at an even-par 213 at the Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate Championships, good for 18th place.
Women EAST CAROLINA- JESSICA CRASNY won a three-way playoff to capture the Lady Pirate Spring Intercollegiate. She fired a third-round 68 to force the playoff.
LOUISVILLE - CINDY PASECHNIK finished 12th at the USF/Waterlefe with a score of 228 and a low round of 73. She also finished sixth at the Lady Seahawk Invitational with a score of 223.
TCU - BROOKE TULL had three top 10 finishes in the month of March (second at the Texas A&M Verizon Memorial, tied for eighth at the Rainbow Wahine and sixth at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic.) She leads TCU with an average of 76.8.
UAB - HEATHER LOURIE finished second at the Lady Blazer Invitational and tied for fourth at the Green Wave Classic. She finished the month with a 76.9 scoring average and her career-low round of 74 in both tournaments.
