Blazers Finish Third as Second Round of Lady Blazer Invitational is Cancelled Due to Heavy Rain

BIRMINGHAM, Ala - The second round of the UAB Lady Blazer Invitational was cancelled today due to heavy rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. After a three hour delay, the 14 team field headed out for an 11:10 a.m. shotgun start, but only finished about five holes before rain set in again. Due to the cancellation of the final round, first day scores are now final.

UAB junior Heather Lourie finished tied for fifth, shooting a 77 and the Blazer women’s golf team finished third in the team standings at the second annual Lady Blazer Invitational.

Arkansas State finished first in the event at the par 72, 5,979-yard Inverness Country Club with a 310. Leigh Ann Jones of ASU finished the tournament as the individual medalist with a two-over-par 74. Murray State (313) finished second, with UAB (314) one stroke behind, finishing third.

For the Blazers, Emily Hendricks finished tied for 10th after shooting 78, while Christina Gushanas finished one back at 79, tied for 16th. Teammates Jenni Elmore and Katie Kane rounded out the line-up for the Blazers with scores of 80 and 89 respectively. Petra Hallberg, playing as an individual, finished the tournament with a 89.
