SLU Takes Fifth at SEMO Four-Ball Tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Saint Louis University men's golf claimed fifth place in the eight-team Southeast Missouri State Four-Ball Tournament. In what amounted to match play competition, the Billikens fell to Eastern Illinois in the first round, but rallied to top the SEMO All-Stars and Southern Illinois to win the consolation bracket and take fifth. Sophomore Evan Frederick and freshman John Campbell finished in a three-way tie for third with three-round totals of 218.

Frederick was solid in the first two rounds with scores of 74 and 73 to hold seventh place after the first day of competition. The Billiken sophomore rallied with a third-round 71, the second-best score of the day, to move up to third. Meanwhile, Campbell shot just under his average with a 75 in round one before exploding with a career-best 69 in round two. His 74 in the final round was good enough to move him ahead one spot and into the tie with Frederick.

Freshman Spencer Franklin opened the tournament with rounds of 74 and 77 before wrapping up with a 75 to finish 20th overall. Freshman David Perritt battled the course more than usual, shooting 78, 74 and 76 to take 24th. Senior Mike Higgason claimed 41st with scores of 78, 77 and 81, while freshman Rob Legg rounded out the team with rounds of 84, 82 and 88 to finish 47th. Freshman Dusty Federko competed as an individual, shooting 80, 84 and 84 to finish 46th.

Saint Louis travels to Nashville, Tenn., for the Belmont Invitational on Apr. 7 and 8.
