UAB's Osborn, Mcdowell Finish Tied for Fourth at Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate
OPELIKA, Ala. -- Junior Payton Osborn (67-72-75/214) of the 24th-ranked
UAB men's golf team had his best finish of the season as he tied for
fourth at the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate in Opelika. Osborn had a
two-stroke lead coming into the final day of play, but shot a final
round 75 to finish play at the par-72, 6,689-yard Saugahatchee Country
Club.
With a final round 293, the Blazers finished in third place, shooting
866. Auburn (851) won the event, taking the title by one stroke over
Georgia State (852).
Allen Thompson (71-72-69/212) of Georgia State captured the individual
title by one stroke over second place finishers' Alan Morgan
(71-70-72/213) of LSU and D.J. Fiese (70-73-70/213) of Georgia State.
For the Blazers, 64th-ranked Graeme McDowell (73-70-71/214) fired a
final round 1-under par 71 to tie for fourth with teammate Osborn and
three other players. Daniel Ozley (72-71-74/217) shot a final round
2-over par to finish tied for 12th place while teammate Craig Gordon
(75-75-73/223) shot a 1-over par final round 73 to finish tied for 34th
spot. Drew Jones (73-77-79/229) finished tied for 48th place.
The Blazers will compete in the Conference USA Championships in Navarre,
Fla. on April 23-25. |
