Day One Pairings
CHICAGO – Two nationally-ranked teams are among the nine-team field set compete for the 2003 Conference USA Women’s Golf Championship scheduled for April 21-23 at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Tampa, Fla. Tulane, the defending champion, is ranked 15th by Golfworld and 19th by Golfweek, while TCU is ranked 31st by Golfweek.
BROOKE TULL of TCU is ranked 40th in the country and one for four returning all-conference team members in this year’s field. On the year, Tull has five top 10 finishes, including winning the Lady Paladin Classic individual crown last fall with a 212 total.
Louisville’s CINDY PASECHNIK and the Green Wave’s CAROLIN LANDMANN and KATHY SCHAFER, who all garnered All-C-USA honors last season, will be competing in the tournament. Other golfers to watch are East Carolina’s Jessica Krasny, Memphis’ JENNIFER JASZEK, TCU’s D’RAE WARD and Tulane’s LILIANA ALVEREZ. All have individual tournament wins to their credits this season with Krasny and Ward capturing multiple medallist honors.
The first tee time for each day of the competition will be 7:45 a.m. (EDT).
CHICAGO – Nationally-ranked TCU highlights the 14-team field set compete for the 2003 Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship scheduled for April 21-23 at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Tampa, Fla. The Horned Frogs, the C-USA defending champions, are ranked fifth by Golfweek and sixth by Golfworld.
TCU is led by Ben Hogan Award semifinalist and Palmer Cup Team member ADAM RUBINSON and his teammate DAVID SCHULTZ. Rubinson, who is ranked 18th, has five top five finishes to his credit this season, including back-to-back individual medallist honors at the College All-American (71-68-69 – 208) and the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate (67-70-72 – 209). Schultz, the ranked 25th collegiate player, has three top 10 finishes including the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational individual title with a three-round 201 total.
This year’s field also includes 2002 all-conference performers, East Carolina’s JASON HARRIS and Tulane’s CHRIS WHEELER. Harris won the Georgetown Hoya Invitational during the fall with a two-day total of 135, while Wheeler, the February C-USA Co-Golfer of the Month, won the Beau Chene Collegiate Classic by firing 209. Other golfers to watch are Marquette’s NATHAN COLSON, Memphis’ ALAN WEANT, SLU’s EVAN FREDRICK, USM’s JUSTIN EMIL, SHANE RUSHING and MICHAEL SOROKA, TCU’s ADAM MEYER and UAB’s NATHAN TURNER, all who have tournament wins this season.
The first tee time for each day of the competition will be 8 a.m. (EDT).
For the first time in C-USA history, the men’s championship will be contested at the same site and dates as the women’s championship.
