TCU Grabs Four-Stroke Lead After
Round One of C-USA Women’s Golf Championship

USF junior Fernanda Rivera was one of two golfers to shoot under par during Monday’s first round of the 2005 Conference USA Women’s Golf Championship at the Par-72, 6,178-yard Germantown Country Club. Rivera’s two-under par 70 has her in first place in the individual standings and the Bulls tied for second trailing only TCU in the team standings. The Horned Frogs have a four-stroke lead on the 10-team field after shooting a 294.
Sophomore Stacy Bieber led the Horned Frogs to the top of the standings after she posted a one-under par 71. Bieber stands in second place individually, one stroke ahead of Louisville’s Adrienne White. Tulane’s Alison Walshe, USF’s Christina Jones and TCU’s Elin Emanuelsson are each tied for fourth after shooting rounds of 73. Defending stroke play champion Liliana Alvarez is tied for seventh after carding a two-over 74.
Alvarez and Walshe have the Green Wave tied for second with the Bulls in the team standings after each team shot a 298. Southern Miss trails TCU by 15 strokes and is in fourth place, while Memphis rounds out the top five after carding a 311.
Nicole Mackey was the top finisher for Southern Miss after recording a 75 (t-10th), while Kathryn O’Rourke led the host Tigers with a 74 (t-7th). Second round action takes place on Tuesday with the final round concluding on Wednesday.
