CHICAGO-- Conference USA will be sending an unprecedented four teams to the 2003 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships Regionals, as announced by the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee on Monday. Conference tournament champion South Florida will be joined by Tulane and East Carolina in the East Region, while TCU has earned a spot in the Central Region.
South Florida will be making its fifth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. The Bulls have advanced out of the East Regional and into the NCAA Championships in each of the last two years.
This will mark the first time in the short history of the East Carolina women's program that the Pirates have been chosen for the NCAA Regionals. The women's golf program began just three years ago.
Tulane’s NCAA appearance will be its second straight as a member of Conference USA. The Green Wave finished one stroke behind third place at East Carolina at last week’s C-USA championship.
TCU will be making its eighth consecutive NCAA regional appearance when it begins play at the Central Region in Lincoln, Nebraska on May 8. The Frogs have advanced to the NCAA Championship round three times during that span.
All three regional tournaments will be conducted May 8-10 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies will apply.
