East Carolina’s Adrienne Millican fired a final round 74 at the NCAA Women’s Golf East Regional on Saturday to advance the 2004 NCAA Championship. Millican, who finished tied for ninth place with a three-day six-over par 222, is the first women’s golfer in ECU history to advance to the national championship.
Millican, who was competing as an individual in the regional, posted her third round score at the par-72, 6,165-yard Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort at Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. She becomes only the second women’s golfer in Conference USA history to make to the national championship as an individual competitor since Meaghan Francella of Memphis qualified in 2001, but did not finish due to injury.
Tulane, also competing at the East Regional as a team, finished in 10th place, two spots off of making the top eight teams from that region to qualify for nationals. The Green Wave finished with a three-round 928 (+64).
Tulane was led by Mary Ellen Jacobs, the 2004 C-USA Freshman of the Year, who finished tied for 20th at a 10-over par 226, including shooting a 77 on the final day. Her teammate Liliana Alvarez, who was the medalist at the Conference USA Championship, shot an 81 in the last round to finish with a 14-over par 230 to finish tied for 32nd.
At the Central Region Tournament, which was held at the par-71, 6,108-yard Illinois State University Golf Course in Bloomington, Ill., TCU finished in 12th place with three-day total of 935 (+83).
The Horned Frogs were led by Brooke Tull, this year’s C-USA Player of the Year, and Traci Robison. The duo finished tied for 17th at 16-over par 229. Tull fired a final round 74 on Saturday, while Robison carded a 77 on the last day.
The NCAA Championship will take place May 18-21 at the par-72 Grand National Lake Course in Auburn, Ala.
