East Carolina's Adrienne Millican Tied For Tenth At NCAA Women's Golf Championship

Adrienne Millican

East Carolina women's golfer Adrienne Millican recorded an even par round of 72 during the first round of the Women's NCAA Golf Championships on Tuesday and currently sits in a tie for 10th place with three rounds to go. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,215-yard Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, AL.

Millican recorded a bogey on the par-3 third hole to start at one-over par. She quickly got back on track as she collected consecutive birdies on four and five for a one-under par front nine score of 35. At the turn, she bogeyed No. 10 and pared the remainder eight holes for an even round of 72.

Ohio State's Allison Hanna (69) has a one shot lead over Alison Curdt (Florida State), Allison Fouch (Michigan State) and Ashley Gomes (San Jose State). There are five golfers sitting two strokes behing Hanna at one-under par.

In the team portion of the championship, Oklahoma State (288) holds a one shot lead over Duke (289) and UCLA (289), while Ohio State sits in fourth
after posting a score of 296.

"Adrienne had a solid round of golf today," said ECU head golf coach Kevin Williams. "She had a great start and that gave her confidence to have a good round. She was a little short on hitting the greens, but the rest of her game was on. I look for her to continue her solid play the rest of the week."

Millican earned a spot in the NCAA Championships after finishing tied for ninth at the NCAA East Regionals. The top two individuals that were not on qualifying teams earned berths to the finals. She became the first Pirate golfer, male or female in the modern era, to participate in the NCAA Championships. Former Pirate standout Gail Sykes participated in the NAIA Championships in the late 1960's and was named to the first women's golfers All American team in 1969.

Second round action resumed Wednesday morning at 8 am central time. Fans can follow all the NCAA Championship action live on Golfstat.com.
