Trio of C-USA Golfers Receive All-America Honors

CHICAGO – Three Conference USA golfers, all hailing from the state of Texas, were selected to the 2003 PING Men’s Golf Division I All-America squads. Reigning C-USA Golf of the Year, TCU’s Adam Rubinson was a third team selections, while his Horned Frog teammate, David Schultz, received honorable mention accolades along with Houston’s Brett Callas.
This year, Rubinson and Schultz helped lead TCU to three tournament titles, including its second consecutive league crown (since joining the conference in 2002) at the Lake Jovita Golf Course in Dade City, Fla. The Horned Frogs also claimed top team honors at the Sooner Invitational and the Prestige of the West, while making their 14th straight NCAA Regional appearance this year.
Rubinson notched the first medallist honor of his career with a victory at the Western Refining All-America Classic with a five-under 208 and added three second-places finishes this season. Meanwhile, Schultz claimed medallist accolades at The Ridges Intercollegiate (one-under 215), his first competition as a Horned Frog, and the ASU Thunderbird Invitational (15-under 201).
Callas helped the UH squad to seven Top-10 finishes, including a season best third-place showing at the Waikoloa Intercollegiate. On an individual basis, Callas was the medallist of the NCAA Central Region Golf Championship with a nine-under 207 to advance to the 2003 NCAA Championship.
All three golfers were All-Conference USA selections with Rubinson and Schultz garnering first-team selections, while Callas was a third-team member. In its eight-year history, Conference USA has had nine golfers earn All-America honors.
