UH Men's Golf Team Finishes Fourth at NCAA Championships
CHICAGO - Senior Chris Morris shot an impressive 66 in the final round of competition to lead Houston into a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championship played at the Robert Trent Jones Trail at the Grand National Golf Club in Auburn, Ala this past weekend. With that finish, University of Houston posts its highest finish at the championships since winning the title in 1985.
Morris, a native of Tyler, Texas, posted his best round of the tournament with a six under par 66 Sunday to finish second place individually and help pace UH to a team score of 272 in the final round of play. Houston finished the tournament with a -30 under total of 1125 strokes, 6 shots behind team champion Georgia Tech (1116, -36) and runner-up Oklahoma State. Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State remained tied after the fourth round, but the Cowboys managed to win the team title in a one-hole play-off. The Cougars were just four shots away from third-place Arizona (1118, -34).
Houston's 272 Saturday was definitely a team effort. Junior Andy Sanders shot a six under par 66 to finish tied for seventh place. Also, James Edmondson completed his tournament play tied for 41st .
