Saint Louis University junior golfer Evan Frederick (Destin, Fla./Fort Walton Beach) was named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America. A two-time All-Conference selection, Frederick battled through a fall shoulder injury to finish the season tied for the team lead with a 74.81 average.
"It's great to see Evan recognized on the national level for not only his effort on the golf course but in the classroom as well," head coach Ed Schwent said. "He was forced to work especially hard on both this year with his shoulder injury, and he showed the character and determination that has, for three years, been a benchmark for the rest of our team."
A third-team All-Conference USA selection, Frederick led the team in five of the seven tournaments in which he played. He finished a season-best second at both the St. John's Treasure Coast Classic and the Billiken Invitational. In the second round of the Conference USA Championship, he shot a season-low 67, the lowest score of any golfer in the tournament.
Frederick's season average of 74.81 is his third entry in the program's all-time top five list, including his school record average of 72.88 in the 2002-03 season. Frederick continues to hold a commanding lead in the career average race as he stands at 73.7 over 77 career rounds for the Billikens.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2.
