Southern Miss' Ramey Advances in 80th U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
July 13, 2005 Southern Miss sophomore golfer Kyle Ramey advanced to the match-play round of 64 following the first two days of stroke play at the 80th U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, being played this week at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio.
Ramey, a native of Paducah, Ky., carded a two-round total of 4-over par 147 (73-74) to tie for 42nd overall and make the cut at 9-over par. With his total, Ramey advanced to the match play round of the event, which begins today. Ramey is seeded 43rd overall and will face Brad Marek of Arlington Heights, Ill., in Wednesday's action.
The winner of today's match advances to play the winner of the 11 vs. 54 match between Matthew Every of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Duke Butler of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and second-round match on Thursday.
The 6,966-yard, par 70 course will utilize the Woodlands Nine as holes 1-9 and the Lakeside Nine as holes 10-18. This event is the first USGA championship hosted by the course.
