SLU's Evan Frederick Advances to U.S. Public Links Quarterfinals

Saint Louis University senior Evan Frederick (Destin, Fla. / Fort Walton Beach) today advanced to the quarterfinal round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. Frederick ousted Nathan Smith (Sequel, Calif.) in match play on the 7,132-yard, par 72 Rush Creek Golf Club.

"This is a prestigious event, and it's terrific for Evan to be on that course with his Billiken golf bag," said Billikens head coach Ed Schwent. "The winner receives an automatic bid to the 2005 Masters and could be named to the Walker Cup team. So, there is plenty at stake."

In Wednesday's first round, Frederick defeated Kyle Ritchie (Bedford, Iowa) in 22 holes. In Thursday's second round, Frederick beat Jamie Miller (Silver Creek, N.Y.) 1 up.

The quarterfinal round is played on Friday.
