Tulane University women’s golf standouts Lindsay Hulwick and Alexis Wooster joined some elite company when the duo claimed spots in the 2003 U.S. Women’s Amateur with qualifying scores at the Colorado and Illinois Sectionals, respectively.
The Green Wave pair will join the 154-member field for the U.S Women’s Amateurs on Aug. 4-9 at the Philadelphia County Club in Gladwyn, Pa. Hulwick will be making her second consecutive trip to the prestigious tournament after qualifying a year ago, and Wooster earned a spot in the tourney field for the first time.
“I’m extremely proud of what Alexis and Lindsay have done,” head coach Sue Bower said. “They were part of a special freshman class two years ago, they both had solid sophomore seasons, and now they’re off to the most highly respected amateur tournament in the county.
“I wish them luck in the event, and there is little doubt that the experience they gain there will translate into an even better 2003-04 season from each of them.”
Hulwick claimed a spot in the U.S. Women’s Amateur nearly a week ago when she fired a 75 at the Colorado Springs Sectional at Broadmoor Golf Course on July 8. She was the fourth-place finisher in the event and the final golfer from the section to advance to the national tournament.
Wooster, meanwhile, punched her ticket to the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Monday with a 77 at the Crystal Lake County Club in Crystal Lake, Ill. Wooster’s score was the second lowest of the tournament and she was one of six participants in the Illinois Sectional to advance to the Amateur
Championship.
