East Carolina's Margaret Mitchell Named To All-Scholar Golf Team

East Carolina women's golfer Margaret Mitchell has been named to the NCAA Division I All-Scholar Team, announced today by the National Golf Coaches Association. Mitchell, an accounting major, is a two-time recipient of this award, and is one of 297 women's golfers nationwide to be named to the All-Scholar Team.

The criteria for selection to the All-Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 (3.40 for seniors) and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

"I am very proud of what Margaret has accomplished in the class room and on the golf course," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "She has worked really hard on her golf game, dropping seven strokes since her freshman year, while
maintaining at least a 3.5 grade point average."

Mitchell, competed in 10 of 11 events for the Pirates this past season. She completed 29 rounds in competition with a 18-hole stroke average of 77.7, third best for the Lady Pirates. She had three top 10 finishes and five top 20 finishes in 2002. Mitchell, a native of Raleigh, N.C., returns to the Pirate line-up this fall for her senior season.
