Tom Shaw Named Tulane Men's Golf Coach
NEW ORLEANS -- Tulane University Director of
Athletics Rick Dickson announced Friday that Tom Shaw has been named
head men's golf coach.
Shaw spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the University
of South Carolina. While working under legendary coach Puggy Blackmon,
Shaw was responsible for tournament scheduling and recruiting
student-athletes to a program that was nationally ranked in each of
those seasons and finished 2000 ranked 20th in the final MasterCard
men's collegiate golf rankings.
"I am very happy to be a part of the Tulane family," said Shaw. "I'm
relatively new to coaching, but I come from a strong playing
background. With the support and enthusiasm of Rick Dickson, I know
that I can help this program improve."
Prior to his tenure at South Carolina, Shaw spent seven years as a
player on the Nike Tour. In addition to three career runner-up
finishes, he also competed in three Nike Tour Championships, an event
held only for the tour's top 50 money winners each season.
A 1991 graduate of Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Management, Shaw was a
two-year letterman for the Yellow Jackets. He earned Academic
All-America honors in 1990 and 1991, and along with teammate David
Duval, led Tech to the 1991 Atlantic Coast Conference championship.
Shaw, 32, is a native of Ft. Worth, Texas. He and his wife Sherri have
a two-year-old son, Ryan. |
