Davidsson and Keefe Named To NGCA All-American Scholar Team
Aug. 5, 2005 Southern Miss women's golfers Mia Davidsson and Jennifer Keefe have been selected as two of more than 300 collegiate players to be named to the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar teams, recently announced by the organization. "Both of these players had a very successful golf career and also have done well in the classroom," Southern Miss Women's Golf Head Coach Julie Gallup said. "They were real assets to the team when they played. They were competitive on the course and took school seriously at the same time. I'm very proud of their accomplishments." Davidsson, a native of Simrishamn, Sweden, recently completed her sophomore season in the spring, finishing with a scoring average of 78.1 shots per round. She also had seven top 25 finishes and four top 10s, including a fourth-place finish in the Miss Louie Season Opener in February. Although only a sophomore in eligibility, Davidsson will not return to the Lady Eagle program in the fall. Instead, she will return to Sweden to enroll in medical school. Keefe, a Winterpark, Fla., native, completed her senior season in the spring, finishing with a scoring average of 79.4. She posted three top 25 finishes and two top 10s, including a third-place finish in the Miss Louie event. Keefe now will advance her academic career, attending law school at LSU in the fall. The two were part of 327 women's collegiate golfers from NCAA Division I, II and III teams who were recognized for this prestigious honor. Among Division I golfers, 205 made the team.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 (3.40 for seniors in Division II and III) and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
