ECU's Millican Claims Fifth Career Title at Edwin Watts Intercollegiate

Adrienne Millican

East Carolina senior golfer Adrienne Millican claimed her fifth career tournament title on Tuesday by posting a three-under par 216 at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate. The tournament was being played at the par-72, 5,911-yard Kiawah Island Oak Point Club.

Millican finished two strokes ahead of Nebraska's Merynn Ito (74-68-73) to record her third top-10 placement of the season. Louisville's Adrienne White and Michigan's Ali Stinson finished tied for third at 216, while Alejandra Shaw (Campbell) an Brianna Broderick (Michigan) finished tied for fifth (217).

Fellow Pirate Heidi Helliesen claimed her third top-20 placement of the season with an eight-over par 224 for a share of 19th place.

The Pirates (54-27-0) fired rounds of 301, 295, and 297 to finish in seventh (893) just eleven strokes behind tournament champion Campbell (882). Michigan (885) took second, followed by SMU (888), Nebraska (889) and Coastal Carolina (890).

"I'm really pleased with where we are as a team right now," said Head Golf Coach Kevin Williams. "Adrienne and Heidi have played well all season. We just need to get one or two more girls to play a little better and I think we have a great chance at post season play.

"This tournament had a lot of good teams and that was evident with the scoring. I feel really good about where we are for the spring season and trying to land a spot in the regional tournament."

ECU will be back on the links in February, when they travel to Miami, Fla. for the Papa John's Collegiate at Don Shula's Golf Club on the 20th through the 22nd.
