Thomas and White Named October C-USA Golfers of the Month

    Memphis senior Allan Thomas and Louisville junior Adrienne White each posted tournament wins in October and earned C-USA Golfer of the Month honors. Thomas was medallist at the Memphis Intercollegiate and the Tigers won three team tournament titles this fall. White, who is ranked No. 30 by Golfweek, earned medallist honors at the Beacon Woods Invitational.

    Men's Golfer of the Month
    Allan Thomas - Memphis (Senior, Conway, Ark.)


    Thomas earned medallist honors at the Memphis Intercollegiate, as the only golfer to shoot under par, with rounds of 77-70-67=214. Thomas was also key to the No. 29 Tigers' team victories in two October tournaments - the Memphis Intercollegiate and the Missouri Bluffs Challenge. He tallied another Top 5 finish at Missouri Bluff and was the Tigers' top finisher at the prestigious Landfall Tradition to close out the month.

    Adrienne White - Louisville (Junior, Puebla, Mexico)


    The sophomore carded her personal best 68 in the final round of the Beacon Woods Invitational to force a playoff for medallist honors. White defeated Georgia State's Lizbeth Meincke in a three-hole playoff, draining a downhill 30-footer for birdie. She also earned a Top 20 finish in the Lady Paladin Invitational. Her fall stroke average of 72.3 leads the team and ranks 30th nationally in NCAA Division I by Golfweek.

    CINCINNATI freshman Hillery Wilson continues to impress, earning co-medallist honors at the Huskie Classic in just her third career tournament. Sophomore Sarah Bires lived every golfer's dream when she carded her first hole in one on Oct. 18 during the first round of the Great Smokies Intercollegiate. She hit the shot on the par-three 11th hole at the Waynesville CC. ... EAST CAROLINA senior Adrienne Millican recorded a final round even-par 72 to finish tied for fourth place with a 54-hole score of 218 at the Lady Paladin Intercollegiate. It was her third straight event where she claimed a top-six finish. Millican finished five stokes behind tournament champion Monique Gesualdi (69-70-74=213) of Furman, who led from start to finish. The Pirates recorded a final round score of 295 and finished tied for tenth out of 23 teams participating in the tournament. ... LOUISVILLE moved up two spots to finish tied at 14th in the Lady Paladin. The Cardinals finished the day shooting a 300 for a final score of 909. C-USA Golfer of the Month Adrienne White tied for 18th place, but was playing with an injured wrist. ... MEMPHIS Through four events, the Lady Tigers are ranked No. 94 in the nation. Memphis is led by sophomore Stacey Tate who is ranked No. 178 individually, with a 75.5 stroke average in 11 rounds and a low round of 71. ... SAINT LOUIS was off to their best start in the second round of the 16-team F&M Bank Austin Peay State Intercollegiate before rain forced players off the course for the remainder of the day. Jenny Madras and Kelly Fitzgerald led the Billikens in round one as both shot 87 to finish tied for 52nd in the 85-golfer field. ... SOUTHERN MISS senior Jennifer Keefe has paced the Golden Eagles this season. She tied for 21st in the Beacon Woods Invitational, with a low round of 70, and 31st in the John Kirk/Lady Panther Invitational. ... TCU and sophomore Catherine Matranga closed out the fall season with their best performances yet this year as both finished fourth out of a field of 23 teams and 122 individuals at the Furman Lady Paladin Classic. Sophomore Camille Blackerby inched up a few spots to tie for 18th to give TCU two top-20 scores and help the team to a fourth place finish. ... TULANE sits at No. 11 in the Golfweek national rankings. Senior Lindsay Hulwick and junior Liliana Alvarez shot one-over par 73s as the Green Wave wrapped up the 2004 fall season by finishing tied for third at The Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. Tulane finished the three-day event with a 19-over par 883 (303-281-299), tying with Ohio State and just two strokes behind second-place UNC-Wilmington and five strokes off team champion New Mexico. Hulwick led the Green Wave with a three-day, one-over par 217 (75-69-73) to finish tied for seventh in the individual race, and Alvarez was one stroke back with a 218 (75-70-73) to finish tied for ninth. ... UAB senior Brooke Mangan fired a one-under-par 71 and finished the tournament there to take home individual medallist honors at the John Kirk/Lady Panther Invitational for her first title of the 2004-05 season and second of her career. ... USF played a splendid opening round that put them in second place at The Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., the Bulls finished 10th in the 12-team field.

    CHARLOTTE sophomore Matt Mincer and freshman Andrew DiBitetto shot three-round totals of 226 to lead Charlotte to a 10th-place finish at the Duke Golf Classic. The 49ers finished with a three-round total of 909. Mincer rebounded from an opening round 78 to shoot back-to-back rounds of 74 to share top team honors with DiBitetto, who carded rounds of 74-76-76. Sophomore Ray Sheedy, like Mincer, opened with an unusually high round of 79 but answered with a 75-74 to come in at 228. ... CINCINNATI junior Adam Fluty paced the Bearcats in all three tournaments in October, finishing the month with an average of 74.6. He had a pair of top-25 finishes during the month, including his first top-10 of the year, an eighth place finish at the Dayton Fall Invitational. During the first round of the F&M Bank Intercollegiate, Fluty shot a round of 69, establishing a new career-best. The round was the lowest by a Bearcat in nearly three seasons. ... DE PAUL head coach Betty Kaufmann earned her first team title as all five DePaul golfers finished in the top 16 and the Blue Demons won the annual Ironhorse Intercollegiate. Freshmen Matthew McMahon and Will Cumberland each tied for sixth overall at 225, just six shots off the lead, to pace the Blue Demons. Josh Scarborough finished tied for 13th at 229 while Kyle Patterson and Nathan Ruth were tied for 16th at 230. ... EAST CAROLINA senior Adam Howell shot a final round one-under par 71 to take home medallist honors at the 2004 Pirate Fall Intercollegiate. It was Howell's first collegiate victory and third top-10 finish of the season. The Pirates (30-36-2) placed five golfers in the top-20, which led to a second place finish with a final score of 873 (293-281-299). ... HOUSTON sophomore Ricky Romano paced the Cougars throughout October as the top finisher in the Club Grove Intercollegiate and Squire Creek Intercollegiate. Romano tied for second individually at Squire Creek. Sophomore teammate Pablo Acuna tied for sixth in the tournament as UH finished second overall. ... LOUISVILLE tied for fifth at Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions title with a 289-296-281=866. Playing in rainy conditions, senior Charlie Woo and freshman Daryl Fathauer led the way for the Cardinals. Woo tied for third place after shooting 71-70-69=210 for his third top-five finish this fall. Fathauer tied for 14th overall after firing 74-72-69=215. ... MARQUETTE tied for ninth place with Nebraska at the Xavier Invitational. Freshman Ted Gray finished as Marquette's low scorer, placing 15th. He shot a final round 73 to finish at one-under, 215. Sophomore Michael Bielawski tied for 27th at 217 after shooting par in the final round. ... MEMPHIS won three straight tournaments this fall and is currently the only squad with three team wins this season. C-USA Golfer of the Month Allan Thomas earned medallist honors at the Memphis Intercollegiate, while teammate Andy Shiels won the individual title at the Missouri Bluffs Challenge. The Tigers were ranked as high as No. 13 by Golfweek, before slipping to No. 29 following an 11th place finish at the Landfall Tradition. ... SAINT LOUIS junior John Campbell's opening round 72 was the team's tournament low as the Billikens finished 11th in the 15-team Oral Roberts Shangri-La Shootout. Campbell paced the Billikens for the second-consecutive tournament with rounds of 72, 76 and 79. Senior Evan Frederick matched Campbell's total of 227 with steady rounds of 76, 74 and 77. ... SOUTHERN MISS, host of the 2005 C-USA Men's Golf Championship, was led by Danny Dennis this month. Dennis earned a Top 25 finish at the Squire Creek Intercollegiate. ... TCU moved into sixth place in the Golfweek national rankings and played their final fall tournament at the Prestige at PGA West. Senior David Schultz tied for 13th overall. ... TULANE sophomore Michael Thompson posted a three-under par 69 in the final round of the University Club Intercollegiate Tuesday in Baton Rouge, finishing two strokes behind individual champion Jeremy Alcorn of Baylor. The Green Wave plays their fall finale in Hawaii at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate event in Kahuku. ... UAB finished its fall season at the University Club Intercollegiate. Junior Clark Brown scorched the course, carding a three-under-par 69 to pace UAB golfers in the final round. Brown's three rounds of 77-70-69 tied him for 36th individually and helped UAB to a tie with Mississippi State for 12th in the team standings. ... USF freshman Greg O'Mahoney led the Bulls with a 222, finishing in a tie for 19th place, at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate in Tampa.
