Green Wave Men's Golf Team Wins Hal Sutton Intercollegiate
Tulane's Byron Schultz Wins Individual Title
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Tulane men's golf team, under the leadership of new
head coach Tom Shaw, won its first tournament in at least five seasons after
shooting even par 288 in the final round of the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate
at the par 72, Olde Oaks Golf Club in Bossier City on Tuesday.
The Green Wave defeated Nicholls State by two strokes with a team total of
three over par 579 for 36 holes. Texas Pan-Am, Southern Miss and New Orleans
tied for third, four strokes behind Tulane. Tulane entered Tuesday's round
in fourth place after an opening day team total of 291,
but were just one stroke behind the three teams tied for first. The Green
Wave and Texas Pan-American tied for the low round of the day.
Green Wave sophomore Byron Schultz claimed the tournament's individual title
with a four-under par 68 Tuesday to finish at six-under (138) for the event.
Teammate Justin Strausbaugh tied for fourth at two-under-par 142 with rounds
of 70 and 72. James Griffin, a sophomore from Jesuit High in New Orleans,
fired matching rounds of two-over par 74 and totalled 148 for the tournament
to tie for 14th while Phil Krass followed Monday's 77 with a round of 74
Tuesday and tied for 24th at 151.
