Rice Head Coach Ron Smarr

"I think we played okay, particularly in doubles. I was pleased with the way we played doubles- singles a couple of places we just were not in it mentally and it showed. Searle did a good job, because he hasn't played. He's probably playing at 70 percent, at best. But we did what we had to do to win the match. We kind of got in trouble when I don't think we should have been, but we still had what it took to get the W."

"UAB is a little bit better team than people think. You look back a couple weeks, they took the 36th-ranked team in the country 4-3 and they swept the doubles at Alabama. We knew they were capable. We didn't play as well as I thought we'd play. When you're missing one of the best players in the country at No. 3 singles, it puts a lot more pressure on you too."

"Honestly, we got by. Hopefully we'll play better tomorrow, we better play better tomorrow. I'm just glad to be in the finals."
