No. 75 UAB Beats Troy State, 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 75th-ranked UAB women’s tennis team improved their record to 8-0 on the season as they defeated Troy State 6-1 at the Brook Highland Racquet Club.

The Blazers started the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. Mirela Vladulescu and Monika Schmid, ranked 29th nationally, defeated the Trojan team of Carolina Aravena and Talia Flores 8-5 at no. 1 doubles.

In singles action, UAB claimed five of the six matches winning all in straight sets. At no. 1 singles, 17th-ranked Vladulescu defeated Aravena 6-0, 6-2.

With their wins, Vladulescu, Schmid and Margaux Melsheimer are all undefeated on the season.

The Blazers will play the second match of its five-match homestand on Feb. 28 as they take on the Samford Bulldogs. The match will be held at the Brook Highland Raquet Club and admission is free.
