No. 70 UAB Defeats Samford 5-2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 70th-ranked UAB women’s tennis team defeated the Samford Bulldogs 5-2.

With the victory, UAB improved their record to 9-0 on the season. Samford drops to 3-5.

The Blazers started off strong by winning all three of their doubles matches.

In singles action, UAB took four of the six singles matches. At no. 1 singles, Monika Schmid defeated Stanka Ilkova 6-3, 6-1. Margaux Melsheimer of UAB defeated Katherine Jayroe 6-2, 6-3 at no. 2 singles.

The Blazers will continue their five match homestand as they take on Eastern Michigan on Feb. 7 at 1:30 p.m. The match will be played at the Brook Highland Raquet Club and admission is free.
