UAB Women's Tennis Extends Winning Streak to Eleven with 7-0 Win
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 71st-ranked UAB womens tennis team extended
their winning streak to 11-0 early Saturday afternoon after defeating
Southern Miss 7-0 at the Brook Highland Racquet Club. The Blazers took
the match in straight sets.
UAB started the match by sweeping the doubles matches to pick up the
doubles point. The Blazers Mirela Vladulescu and Monika Schmid
improved their doubles record to 9-1 as they defeated Jackie Prew and
Patty Kundisova 8-1 at the top doubles spot. At the no. 2 spot, Margaux
Melsheimer and Femke deBoer defeated Marie Lindberg and Tina Rautajouki
8-3.
At no. 1 singles, UABs Vladulescu defeated Prew 6-1, 6-1. Schmid
defeated Kundisova 6-1, 6-1 at the no. 2 slot, while Melsheimer defeated
Lindberg at the no. 3 slot.
The Blazers will play again Sunday, March 11, finishing the last match
in a five-match homestand as they take on 61st-ranked Middle Tennessee.
Match time is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Brook Highland Racquet Club.
