UAB Men's Tennis Go 1-1 Over Weekend
TAMPA, Fla. -- Freshman Niklas Lindstrom won both matches as the UAB
men's tennis team went 1-1 this past weekend in their first two C-USA
matches of the season. On Saturday, the Blazers fell to South Florida
6-1, while Sunday, they defeated Memphis 4-3.
After both matches, the Blazers are now 4-7 on the season.
In Saturday's match, South Florida started the match by sweeping the
doubles portion to take the doubles point.
In singles play, Lindstrom took the lone doubles point for the Blazers
defeating Aleks Popovic 7-6, 6-2 at no. 6 singles.
In Sunday's match, the Blazers started off winning only one singles
match, giving up the doubles point to the Tigers. Andre van der Merwe
and Sanzaruz Zaman took the match 8-6 at no. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Blazers battled back to take four of six matches
clinching the win. The Blazers scored victories from Tom Dalby at the
no. 1 spot, van der Merwe at the no. 2 spot, Alex Jung at the no. 3 spot
and Lindstrom at the no. 6 spot.
The Blazers will play their final home match of the season Tuesday,
March 13 as they host Jacksonville State at 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeshore
Tennis Facility. Admission to the match is free.
