No. 46 UAB Blanks Syracuse 7-0
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The 46th-ranked UAB women's tennis team blanked Syracuse
7-0 on Friday afternoon in dual-match action at the Drumlins Tennis
Center in Syracuse, N.Y.
With the win, UAB improves to 15-0 on the season. Syracuse drops to
5-7.
Syracuse battled during singles competition, but lost in straight sets
at every position, but the no. 3 spot. Due to time constraints, the no.
3 spot played a 10-point tiebreaker, rather than complete the third-set
in regulation. Margaux Melsheimer went on to defeat Masha Kabanova 6-4,
4-6, 9-1. Melsheimer improved her record to 15-0 with the win.
In other singles action, 30th-ranked Mirela Vladulescu defeated Michelle
Neveklovska 7-6, 6-1 at the no. 1 spot, Monika Schmid defeated Zuzanna
Borucka 6-1, 7-6 at the no. 2 spot and Natascha Immele defeated Shervin
Saedinia 6-3, 6-2 at the no. 4 position.
In doubles play, the Blazers took two wins at the no. 1 and no. 2
positions to capture the doubles point.
The Blazers are back in action on March 25 as they travel to Princeton,
NJ to take on the Princeton Tigers. Match time is set for 12:00 EST.
