Tulane Women's Tennis Falls to LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - - LSU posted wins at the top four singles positions to claim a 5-2 win over the Tulane women's tennis team at the LSU Tennis Courts on Wednesday.

LSU improves to 11-10 with the win, while Tulane drops to 10-10 overall with the loss.

LSU took an 1-0 lead into singles play by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to claim the doubles point. The LSU team of Colosio and Fantilli posted an 8-3 win over Joyce Bergman and Maria Ivanov at the No. 1 spot, while the Tulane duo of Julie Morris and Ana Saaibi dropped an 8-4 decision to the LSU team of Botts and McIlhaney at No. 2 doubles. Tulane did manage a win at No. 3 doubles when Lucy Wood and Anneli Axsater recorded a 9-7 triumph over LSU's Budd and Mang.

Tulane fought back to tie the score at 1-1 when Wood cruised to an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over McIlhaney at the No. 5 spot. However, LSU quickly took a 3-1 lead with wins at No. 4 and No. 2 singles. Mang was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Tulane's Maiko Cook at the No. 4 spot, while Rocio Fantilli turned in a 6-4, 6-4 win over Joyce Bergman at No. 2 singles.

The Green Wave pulled to within 3-2 after Axsater recorded a 7-6, 6-4 win over Budd at No. 6 singles. but LSU clinched the dual match win with a victory at No. 3 singles when Botts topped Saaibi 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Colosio closed out the match with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 win over Morris at No. 1 singles. Tulane played the singles portion without freshman Maria Ivanov, its top singles player.

Tulane returns to action on Saturday, as the Green Wave return home to face Rice at the Goldring Tennis Center.
