Semifinals Matches Of The 2003 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championships Set

    New Orleans, La. - Tulane and TCU, top two seeds in the 2003 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship, advanced to the semifinals on Monday. Also moving into the semifinals are Houston, the No. 3 seed, and Louisville, the No. 6 seed. Meanwhile in the consolation bracket, Charlotte, the 12th-seed, and Cincinnati, the 11th-seed, remained alive with wins on Sunday.

    The 28th-ranked Green Wave (15-4) got to the semifinals with a 4-0 victory over ECU (14-8), the No. 9 seed at the Goldring Tennis Center.

    Jenny Kuhn, the 56th-ranked player in the nation, posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kirstin Buchanan at No. 1 singles to lead the Green Wave. However, it would be Nancy Kockott at No. 5 singles that would clinch the match for Tulane with a 6-0, 6-0 win over ECU's Emily Kohl. Ana Saaibi also earned a singles victory for the Wave at the No. 4 spot.

    Tulane took the early edge by winnning at No. 2 and 3 doubles to capture the point.

    ECU moves into the consolation bracket to face Cincinnati at 3 p.m. (CST) on Monday at Goldring.

    TCU (10-9), ranked 55th, defeated Marquette (4-17), the No. 10 seed, 4-1 on Sunday at Goldring. The Horned Frogs will meet Louisville in the first semifinal match on Monday at 9 a.m. (CST) at Goldring.

    TCU took control of the match in the doubles play by winning that the No. 1 and 2 matches, including a 8-3 victory by the 59th-ranked tandem of Paty Aburto and Rosa Perez at top doubles position over the Golden Eagle tandem of Michelle Mojzis and Anna Pavlovic.

    In singles action, the Horned Frogs sealed the overall win with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory in the No. 5 singles match by Karla Mancinas over Pavovic. Aburto and Saber Pierce also claimed wins for TCU the No. 1 and 3 spots, respectively.

    Marquette falls into the consolation bracket and will face Charlotte on Monday at 3 p.m. (CST) at the Dillard University Tennis Center.

    Houston, the third seed, advanced to the semifinals with a 4-0 win over South Florida on Sunday at Dillard.

    Kami Miller secured the Houston team win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles over USF's Gina Craig. Analia Longoni and Yolandi Terblanche also collected singles wins at the No. 2 and 4 singles positions.

    The Cougars won the doubles point with victories in the No. 2 and 3 matches.

    USF, the fifth seed, drops into the consolation bracket to face DePaul, the seventh seed, on Monday at 9 a.m. at Dillard.

    Louisville (21-6) advanced to a Monday semifinal match with TCU after a 4-2 win over Memphis (15-7) in the quarterfinals on Sunday at Dillard.

    U of L clinched the match at No. 5 singles where Julie Penn defeated Memphis' Andrea Feichtinger, 6-3, 6-3. Also picking up singles victories where Marie Louise Frolich-Hansen at No. 1 and Jasmine Singh at No. 6.

    The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the match by winning the doubles point by sweeping the top two doubles matches.

    Memphis falls into the consolation bracket to face UAB on Monday at Noon at Dillard.

    Cincinnati, the 11th-seed, stayed alive with a 4-0 win over Southern Miss, the 14th-seed, on Sunday morning at Goldring.

    The Bearcats improve to 11-11, while Southern Miss drops to 8-12.

    Cincinnati won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and 3 doubles. In singles play, Jill Klauck clinched the match for the Bearcats at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over USM's Jennifer Sibille. Also posting singles victories for UC were Lyndsey Molony at No. 2 and Christina Reyes at No. 4 singles.

    Charlotte eliminated Saint Louis with a 4-0 victory on Sunday at Dillard. The 49ers, the 12th-seed, improves to 9-13, while the Billikens, the 13th-seed, fall to 9-13.

    Charlotte won the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions.

    The 49ers' Ashleigh Murray sealed the team win with her 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles over SLU's Vicki Zielinski. Charlotte's Lindsay Morris and Megan Bullins also recorded wins for the 49ers at the No. 3 and 6 singles matches.

    Charlotte will face Marquette match on Monday at 3 p.m. (CST) at the Dillard.
