Championship Results
Host Louisville defeated fourth-seeded DePaul to clinch the final spot in the semifinals of the C-USA Women's Tennis Championship. The Cardinals will face No. 2 TCU, which has won 14 consecutive heading into Saturday's 3 p.m. matchup. No. 1 Tulane and Houston will meet in the first semifinal match, beginning at noon (EST). UAB 4, SAINT LOUIS 1 UAB defeated Saint Louis, 4-1, in the consolation round of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Blazers will now face Memphis at Seneca Park later today beginning at 6 p.m. Saint Louis concludes its tournament run with a 13th-place tie.
UAB claimed the doubles point when the teams of Annemieke Elscholz/Julie von Samson and Nadia Dellarciprete/Samrin Tanzeem won their respective matches, 8-4.
Dellarciprete continued her strong play in singles action, sweeping Saint Louis’ Rebecca Steer, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Tanzeem also claimed a straight-set victory, posting a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Lindsay Winninger.
The Blazers clinched the match after von Samson downed Melissa Cutler, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 4 singles position.

SOUTHERN MISS 4, CINCINNATI 3 No. 12 Southern Miss defeated 13th-seeded Cincinnati, 4-3, in the consolation round of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday at Seneca Park. After losing the first set, Southern Miss’ Grace Kammerer came back and won the next two sets against Cincinnati’s Samantha Liu, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, to clinch the 4-3 victory for the Golden Eagles.
Southern Miss won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Bearcats roared back claiming the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots. Jill Klauk, who defeated USM’s Olivia Berry at No. 5, and Hannah Hinton, who won at No. 3 against Katharina Sadofsky, both swept their opponents. Lyndsey Molony also won at the No. 1 singles spot, claiming a 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 decision over Nicola Slater.
Southern Miss’ Nikhila Narra won at No. 2 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Cristina Reyes, while Kammerer rallied back to win at No. 4 for the Golden Eagle victory.
USM faces 10th-seeded East Carolina for a 6 p.m. matchup today, while the Bearcats conclude the tournament, tying for 13th place with Saint Louis.

TULANE 5, CHARLOTTE 0 No. 1 Tulane shut out Charlotte, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Green Wave, who are ranked No. 15 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings, have now improved their winning streak to 13 consecutive matches.
Tulane dominated early, claiming the doubles point. The duo of Maria Ivanov and Jenny Kuhn defeated Megan Bullins and Ali Piacente, 8-4, at No. 3. No. 21-ranked duo of Nancy Kockott and Dorottya Magas also claimed an 8-4 decision over Ofra Friedman and Kathy Robey.
In singles action, Maria Ivanov cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Laura Swain at No. 1 and Kuhn also swept at No. 2 with a score of 6-1, 6-2 against Friedman.
Vying for its second consecutive C-USA team title, Tulane advances to the semifinals and will face either Houston or Marquette on Saturday at noon.

HOUSTON 4, MARQUETTE 0 No. 3 Houston defeated sixth-seeded Marquette, 4-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday at Seneca Park. The Cougars will now advance to the semifinals where they will take on No. 1 Tulane on Saturday at noon. The Golden Eagles will face No. 7 Charlotte on Saturday at 9 a.m. Both matches will be played at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Houston clinched the doubles point when Yolandi Terblanche and Kami Miller downed Francina Bonnelly and Eva Trujillo Herrera at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, Miranda Foley swept Marquette’s Veronica Garcia Briseno, 6-1, 6-1, while Diana Martin also claimed a straight-set victory over Callan Smith, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3.

TCU 4, USF 1 Second-seeded TCU advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship after defeating No. 8 USF, 4-1, at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Friday. The Horned Frogs have now won their 14th consecutive match and will next face Louisville match on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The No. 32-ranked team of Saber Pierce and Ana Cetnik posted an 8-5 decision over Marie France Lord Andrade and Gabriela Duch at the No. 1 position. Paty Aburto and Karla Mancinas outlasted the USF tandem of Fabiana Taverna, 8-5, at No. 2 to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead.
USF fired back in singles when Duch swept No. 48 Aburto, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1. However TCU held off the Bulls’ run and claimed the No. 1, 2 and 3 spots. Cetnik swept Patricia Kolendo, 6-2, 6-4, while Jenn Chay notched a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Andrade. TCU clinched the match when Pierce nabbed a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 decision over Taverna at No. 3.

LOUISVILLE 4, DE PAUL 2 Fifth-seeded Louisville nabbed a 4-2 victory over No. 4 DePaul in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship. The Cardinals will now advance to the semifinals and face second-seeded TCU at 3 p.m., on Saturday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Blue Demons will take on No. 8 USF on Saturday (9 a.m.) at Seneca Park.
DePaul took the early lead, after the tandem of Gergana Ganeva and Stephanie Matko outlasted Louisville’s Kelly Taylor and Natalie Laszkowski, 9-8, to clinch the doubles point.
However, Louisville rallied back in the singles matches to win at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.
Julie Hierl swept Brenda Leung at No. 4, while Taylor posted a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Natalie Matko. Laszkowski notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Petra Rehusova and Christina Gogal downed Karen Falduto, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 6.

The Golden Eagles will now face Memphis on Saturday at noon. The Pirates conclude their tournament, finishing tied for 11th place.
After Ashley Perkinson and Sara Boseman defeated USM’s team of Olivia Berry and Courtney Ulrich, 8-1, at the No. 3 doubles position, East Carolina looked poised to win the doubles point. However, the Golden Eagles’ team of Nicola Slater and Katharina Sadofsky rallied back from a 7-4 deficit to win at No. 1 doubles. Slater and Sadofsky won the tiebreaker over the ECU team of Kirstin Buchanan and Raluca Baicu, 9-8 (5).
USM cruised to wins in singles play. Olivia Berry downed Boseman, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, while Ulrich swept Perkinson, 6-1, 6-0. Slater continued her strong run, posting a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Baicu at No. 1 to clinch the match.

MEMPHIS 4, UAB 3 Ninth-seeded Memphis captured a 4-3 victory over No. 11 UAB in the consolation rounds of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday at Seneca Park. The Tigers will now face Southern Miss on Saturday at noon, while UAB concludes its tournament run tied for 11th place with East Carolina.
UAB earned the doubles point after the team of Femke de Boer and Marrit Jansma won at No. 1, defeating the Memphis team of Marlene Dirnstorfer and Viktoria Gruber, 8-5.
Memphis bounced back, winning at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4. Dirnstorfer tallied a 7-5, 6-0 victory over de Boer at No. 1, while Gruber swept Annemieke Elsholz, 6-3, 6-3. Yesica Ares rallied back from a second set loss to claim a 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-4 decision over Julie von Samson.
The Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship continues on Saturday with the semifinals and consolation rounds. No. 1 Tulane will take on Houston at noon on Saturday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Host Louisville will face No. 2 TCU in the second semifinal match at 3 p.m.
