Tulane Claims C-USA Men's Tennis Crown

    Tulane claimed the C-USA Men’s Tennis Championship for the second consecutive year on Sunday with a 4-1 win over top-seeded TCU. The Green Wave dropped the doubles point to the Horned Frogs, but swept the singles action with victories in the first, fifth and sixth flights and clinched the win at No. 4.

    Match # 14 (Championship) – (2) Tulane 4, (1) TCU 1

    TCU came out strong and held a 1-0 lead after the doubles competition at the HPER Courts in Memphis, Tenn. The Horned Frogs captured the doubles point with victories in the second and third flights. Hector Almada and Jacopo Tezza teamed up at No. 2 to beat Goran Vasiljevic and Alberto Sottocorno (8-4). The doubles point was clinched when the Jacob Martin and Alex Menichini duo claimed an 8-3 win over Dmitriy Koch and Jacobo Hernandez.

    The Green Wave held on as Michael Kogan brought the squad back to life with a win at the No. 1 spot over Menichini. Hernandez and Sottocorno then posted two more victories in the fifth and sixth flights, respectively, to lift Tulane to a 3-1 lead. The match was clinched at No. 4 when David Goulet edged out Jacopo Tezza in three sets (6-4, 0-6, 6-3). Tulane holds a national ranking at No. 17 and has improved its record to 17-4 on the season. The Green Wave earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
