TCU Heads to NCAA Women's Tennis Championship
By virtue of its Conference USA championship, No. 31 TCU earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship and will face No. 20 Texas A&M May 10 in College Station. In addition, Houston senior SARAH BORWELL has qualified for the NCAA individual singles championship May 20-25 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif, while the TCU doubles tandem of PATY ABURTO and ROSA PEREZ was selected as the second alternate for the May 20-25 doubles championship at Stanford.
This marks TCU’s sixth championship under Conference USA Coach of the Year ROLAND INGRAM, who is retiring at the end of this season. The only coach in the 19-year history of the program, Ingram has compiled a 327-154 career mark and just posted his third-straight 20-win campaign. The winner of the TCU-Texas A&M match will meet either No. 9 Texas or UT-San Antonio in the May 11 regional final.
Borwell has ranked among the top 15 in the nation this season and opened 2002 with an 11-match winning streak, topping her former career-best of nine set last fall. The senior from Middlesborough, England sat out the 1999-00 season to recover from back surgery and has posted a 26-6 dual match mark over the last two years.
