NCAA Men's Tennis Pairings

CHICAGO - No. 39 Tulane received Conference USA's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship and will open up first round action against No. 30 Baylor at Texas Christian University on Saturday, May 12 in Fort Worth. The winner will face either No. 4 TCU or Texas-Arlington on May 13. South Florida will face No. 29 South Carolina in the first round of the tournament in Los Angeles, Ca. on the campus of UCLA. The winner will play either No. 3 UCLA or Sacramento State.

Sixteen first and second round sites, featuring 64 teams, will conduct play May 12-13, with the winner of each site advancing to the team championship in Athens, Ga. The selection of the teams and individuals for the championship is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of the student-athletes. The single and doubles competition will take place May 23-28. Seeding will be announced on May 22, from Athens, Ga.

The Green Wave, are 15-8 and will enter the tournament on an eight-match winning streak. Led by No. 34-ranked Michael Kogan, Tulane is making its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Kogan was also selected to compete in the individual singles tournament in the Midwest Region, and he and Mikko Viljanen will compete in the Southeast Region in doubles. Kogan earned Conference USA Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors with a 29-4 record in singles play this season. Along with partner Mikko Viljanen, the duo is ranked 12th in the nation in doubles play with a 25-4 record.

No. 36 South Florida enters the tournament with a 16-8 record and will be making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance. Paco Antelo, ranked No. 83 in the nation, has led the Bulls this season with an overall record of 23-11. Antelo was also named to Conference USA's all-conference first team.

DePaul's Jeugenij Cario was selected to compete in the singles competition after posting a singles record of 21-5 this season. The junior was named to Conference USA's first team all-conference and is currently ranked No. 52 in the nation.
