IRVING, Texas - Conference USA had three individuals and three doubles tandems selected for the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships in Athens, Georgia beginning May 23. In addition, the league had one individual and one duo on the alternate lists. TCU, Tulane and USF were the three C-USA schools represented.

TCU’s Story Tweedie-Yates and Helena Besovic, in addition to Tulane’s Jenny Kuehn, were three of the four automatic qualifiers selected out of the Southwest Region to compete in the Singles Championship. Tweedie-Yates is the 14th ranked player in the country, as she is currently on a 16-match winning streak that has improved her overall record to 32-4 on the year. Meanwhile, Besovic was selected after she came in at No. 40 in the latest rankings. The first team All-Conference USA selection has a team-leading 33 wins to just nine losses this season. Kuehn, who also earned her the third first-team All-Conference mention of her career, had five upset wins this season and has been ranked by the ITA as high as 37th in singles. Kuehn has won 19 singles matches, 14 of which have come in straight sets.

USF’s Neyssa Etienne was selected as an alternate for the 64-field of singles players. Etienne was 13-4 in singles this year, including wins in each of her three matches at the Conference USA Championship, leading the Bulls to a third place finish.

In doubles, Conference USA had three doubles pairs selected for the 32-team draw. USF’s team of Gabrielle Duch and Etienne earned a South Region at-large bid, while TCU’s Ana Cetnik and Tweedie-Yates tandem and Tulane’s sister duo of Darya and Maria Ivanov received at-large bids from the Southwest Region.

The Bulls’ pair of Duch and Etienne went 10-3 in doubles this season and are currently ranked 19th in the country, while TCU’s No. 29 tandem of Cetnik and Tweedie-Yates finished the regular season with a 19-2 overall record and have won 13-of-their-last-14 matches. Tulane’s Ivanov sisters were named the Most Outstanding Doubles Team of the Conference Tournament and currently stand at No. 31 in the latest ITA poll. Julie Smekodub teams with Kuehn for the Green Wave as an alternate selection for the Doubles Championship.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 19-22). The University of Georgia will serve as host.

All matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
