NCAA 2004 Men's Tennis Championships
CHICAGO – Four singles players, one doubles team and one singles alternate will represent Conference USA at the 2004 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship, it was announced today. The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 26-31 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 22-25). The singles field consists of 64 players, while the doubles field is made up of 32 teams.
Four-time C-USA Player of the Year MICHAEL KOGAN of Tulane received a No. 9-16 seed in the singles draw. The senior is currently ranked No. 11 in the nation and has appeared among the top 13 all season. The 2003 All-American has compiled a 20-5 record on the season and has won nine of his last 10 matches.
Kogan teammate DMITRIY KOCH enters the field ranked 46th in the nation. The Green Wave sophomore, a C-USA first team All-Conference pick, posted a 21-6 record playing primarily at the No. 2 spot, and has won eight of his last 10 matches.
TCU senior and first team All-Conference honoree ALEX MENICHINI, currently ranked No. 48, is 14-13 on the season. No. 62 Uli Kiendl of USF rounds out the C-USA selections. Also a C-USA first team All-Conference selection, Kiendl is 14-13 entering the tournament with five wins over ranked opponents this season.
UAB sophomore TOBI KLEIN was named an alternate for the singles competition.
The 12th-ranked duo of Tulane’s Kogan and DAVID GOULET will compete in the doubles field. Kogan and Goulet are 16-1 on the season with six wins over ranked opponents, including three in the top 25.
