USF Men's Tennis Falls to Texas A&M in NCAA Second Round

College Station, Texas - The University of South Florida men’s tennis team saw their season come to end Saturday afternoon as they fell to host school and 10th ranked Texas A&M, 4-1.

The day started with the Bulls dropping the doubles point. Texas A&M’s No. 1 doubles team of Lester Cook and Ryan Newport defeated Paco Antelo and Renato Silveria 8-3. Then the No. 3 double team of Khaled El Dorry and Ante Matijevic clinched the doubles point for the Aggies by beating Nadim Naser and Andres Maroldt 8-4.

Uli Kiendl was the first Bull to strike winning his first set against Ryan Newport ranked 13th nationally. Kiendl evened the score at 1-1 by closing out his match in straight sets winning 6-4, 7-6(5). The Aggies would take control from there, they quickly answered with a win at No. 2 when Lester Cook beat Paco Antelo, 7-5, 6-4. This win gave Texas A&M a 2-1 lead, a lead that would grow when Matt Loucks beat Juan Barragan 7-5, 7-6(2).

Texas A&M was able to clinch the match when John Nallon defeated Jorge Escallon 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-1 in a grueling three set match.

This mark’s the third straight year the Bulls have had their season ended one win away from the Sweet 16. Last year came at the hands of the Florida Gators in Gainesville by the score of 4-3.
