Clemson Edges TCU in NCAA Men's Tennis Round of 16

No. 33 Clemson upset 16th-ranked TCU at the 2004 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship round of 16 Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. It was the second-straight upset of a higher-seeded team for the Tigers, who defeated No. 6 Duke in the regional finals. The Horned Frogs finish the season at 18-7.
Clemson won the doubles point, posting wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. In singles, TCU notched a point on the scoreboard as Fabrizio Sestini beat Jarmaine Jenkins, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3. The Tigers struck back with a win at No. 4 singles as John Boetsch defeated Jacopo Tezza, 6-2, 6-1. TCU scored another point at No. 2 when Hector Almada took Goran Sterijovski in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. The Tigers sealed the match with victories at No. 1 as Nathan Thompson beat Alex Menichini, 6-2, 6-1 and No. 6 with Ryan Young over Jacob Martin, 7-6, 6-4.
