Charlotte's Jonsson Named First-Team Verizon Academic All-America

CHARLOTTE, NC - Men's tennis player Ola Jonsson was named first-team men's At-Large Verizon Academic All-America. Jonsson is the third first-team Academic All-American in school history. He joins men's soccer players Craig Brown, a 1986 Academic All-American, and Jim Kunevicius, a 1998 Academic All-American, as Charlotte student-athletes who have earned first-team Academic All-America honors.

Jonsson is Charlotte's second Academic All-American this year as men's basketball player Jobey Thomas earned second-team academic All-America honors earlier this year. Jonsson is the ninth Charlotte student-athlete to earn academic All-America honors.

He recently graduated from Charlotte with a 3.97 GPA with a degree in business management.

He twice earned Charlotte's highest athletic honor, the Hugh McEniry Award, which goes each year to the student-athlete with the highest GPA. Also, he has been named Conference USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in men's tennis the past two years. He has been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and has twice earned Verizon Academic All-District honors. This year, he was a recipient of the Conference USA Sportsmanship Award.

Not only does Jonsson excel in the class room but on the court. This season, Jonsson earned second-team All-Conference USA honors. He became the first Charlotte tennis player to be named All-Conference USA four times.

The Viken, Sweden, native finished his career with school record's for career singles and doubles wins. He won 84 singles matches and 70 doubles matches in his four-year career.
