USF, UAB Set to Meet in C-USA Women's Tennis Championship Finals

Tampa, Fla. -- Second seeded South Florida will meet number four UAB in the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship finals, Sunday at noon at the USF Varsity Tennis Complex.

The Bulls reached the finals by virtue of a 5-1 quarterfinal win over Southern Mississippi and a 5-2 semifinal victory over Tulane today. UAB, meanwhile, won 5-3 over Houston and then upset number one seed Marquette,5-2 in the semifinals. Friday's rains in Tampa forced all four of these matches to be completed today.

However, just one match on Sunday will decide whether USF or UAB will win the automatic bid into the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships by virtue of a C-USA crown. For USF, it marks the fourth finals appearance in the five seasons of C-USA competition. The Bulls are 1-2 in the three previous championship matches, including a 5-4 loss to UAB in 1996. The Bulls did win the title in 1997, the last time USF hosted.

UAB is in its third C-USA Championship match, including the win over USF in 1996 and a 5-2 loss to Houston in 1998.
