Charlotte Tennis Players Earns ITA All-Academic Team Honors
A four of Charlotte 49ers women's tennis players earned ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) All-Academic team honors for the second straight season, while a male student-athlete earned accolades during his freshman campaign. The ITA All-Academic team award is given to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Sophomores Courtney Clifford, Jana Cucciniello and Jennifer Hatch and freshman Ashleigh Murray earned ITA scholar-athlete awards. For a student-athlete to earn ITA scholar-athlete status, they must meet three different criteria. First, the student-athlete must be a varsity letterwinner. Second, the student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year. Third, they must have been enrolled at their respective institution for at least two semesters.
Clifford and Hatch both had perfect 4.0 GPAs in both semesters of this past academic year. For their efforts in the classroom, they both were awarded the Bonnie Cone Award which goes to the Charlotte 49ers female student-athlete with the highest GPA for a particular year.
Christofer Boman, a freshman on the 2002-03 Charlotte 49ers men's tennis team, earned ITA scholar-athlete honors.
Boman made the university's chancellor's list, which is a 3.8 GPA or higher, both semesters of this past academic year. He was also named to the Conference USA commissioner's honor roll this past academic year.
