Freshman sprinter Octavious Freeman (Lake Wales, Fla.) has been named to the Bowerman Watch List, the USTFCCCA announced Thursday. The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes in the nation.
Megan Frausto of Houston and Karlis Pujats of Memphis have been named this week's Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week. Frausto scored a C-USA-best 4,000 points to win the pentathlon at the Houston Indoor Invitational & Multi Events. Her total ranks sixth best in the NCAAs and is one of only six to have scored 4,000-or-more points in the event this season. Pujats posted the nation's 12th-best mark of 5.32m (17-05.50) in the pole vault at the Rob McRavy Memorial Meet. The weekly award is a first for both student-athletes.
Tulsa junior Julian Frazier and UCF freshman Octavious Freeman have been named the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week. Frazier won the 400 meters at the Iowa State Open with a personal-best time of 47.60 seconds. Freeman clocked an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 7.23 seconds in the women's 60-meter dash that is currently the fastest time in the nation.
