UTEP Climbs to No. 11 in USTFCCCA

IRVING, Texas – The UTEP women climbed to No. 11 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) latest poll after tallying 136.79 points. LSU (371.04) moved ahead of Texas A&M (299.05) to stand at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, while Texas A&M also stands atop the men’s poll with 285.02 points. Regionally, Conference USA has three teams ranked among the top seven of their respective regions. The UTEP men are sixth in the Mountain Region, while the women are fourth and the Rice women rank seventh in the South Central Region.

2010 Outdoor Track & Field Notebook No. 6

Rice junior Ugo Nduaguba and senior Ashley May of Southern Miss were named the C-USA Track and Field Athletes of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday. The pair dominated the triple jump in their respective meets as Nduaguba captured the title at the Duckett/Rice Twilight in Houston with a leap of 15.57-meters (51-01), while May used a mark of 13.10m (41-11.75) to win the event title at the Golden Eagle Classic.

Triple Jump
Nduaguba captured the triple jump title at the Duckett/Rice Twilight in Houston with a leap of 15.5m (51-01). His mark is tied for 21st nationally and tops the C-USA charts. The Roxbury, Miss., native also placed ninth in the long jump with a season-best 6.86m (22-06.25). This is Nduaguba’s second career outdoor weekly honor and first in 2010.

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ashley May, Southern Miss
Senior, Hoover, Ala.
Triple Jump
May won the women’s triple jump title at the Golden Eagle Classic with a mark of 13.10m (42-11.75). The junior’s mark was a season best and ranks 12th nationally. This is May’s first career outdoor weekly honor.
