COLUMBIA, MO - Tulane All-American Track & Field student-athlete Gloria Asumnu advanced the finals of the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Mideast Regional, while the Nicolette Taku and the Tulane relay teams were also in action at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
Asumnu posted the third-best time in the 100-meter dash prelims, turning in a time of 11.31 seconds, trailing Kelly Ann Baptiste of LSU by just 0.09 seconds.
Her 23.13 time in the 200-meter dash prelims was good for fifth, and a spot in Saturday's final heat. Kerron Stewart of Auburn turned in the top time at 22.52.
Tulane's 4x100 relay team of Taneekwa Ross, Jasmine Momoh, Shaina Pelham and Asumnu also qualified for the finals, with a seventh-place finish in the prelims. The quartet completed their hand-offs in 44.74 seconds.
The 4x400 relay team of Momoh, Kyra Lobbins, Asumnu, Shanon Beelendorf finished 11th overall, turning in a time of 3:40.79.
Nicolette Taku was the Green Wave's lone representative in the field competitions, as she placed tied for 25th in the triple jump. Her distance of 12.37 meters tied Jessica Delaunay of W. Kentucky, and was the sixth-best mark by a freshman.
The finals continue Saturday at Audrey J. Walton Stadium on the campus of the University of Missouri.
