TERRE HAUTE, Ind. ----- UAB's Elizabeth Ambrus finished 57th overall at the 2005 NCAA Cross Country Championship here Monday, as she ran the race in a personal-best time of 20:45.1 in the 6K event.

The race concludes an impressive junior season for Ambrus, as she became the first Blazer to win the individual title at the Conference USA Championship last month. Additionally, Ambrus placed eighth in the 2005 South Regional, helping UAB to its highest-ever finish in the regional and was named an All-South region performer in the event.

"She ran a great race," said UAB head coach Ray Stanfield. "She ran the race that we talked about. It was a great effort for her first time here. It's easy to get caught up in everything at Nationals, but Elizabeth kept her focus. She did herself and UAB proud today."

Northern Arizona's Johanna Nilsson won the individual title, besting the field of 257 runners. Stanford took the team title, finishing with 146 points. Colorado was second totaling 181, with Duke closely behind with 185 points. Conference USA Champion Rice finished 25th in the event.
